Wilderness Weekend

Hello lovelies.  We are sitting here on what in the real world is Tuesday.  Since I had off yesterday it would be my Monday.  Which is what I am using as justification in getting my little weekend recap up a little later then I had hoped for.  Hey, what's a girl to do when she is completely exhausted.  . Oh and hold onto to your panties because you are not going to believe this one...for a change our weekend didn't really have anything to do with water.  Say What?!?  Now before I decide to nap let's move along with our little weekend adventure

Our little weekend excursion, camping at High Cliff State Park.  This trip also happened to be one of the items on the long term bucket list.  Thank goodness we were adding something in that bucket.  The other items were starting to ferment.  And not in a wine type good kind of way either. (did that make sense, well it did in my head, tired people).

High Cliff State Park - It is the only stated owned park on Lake Winnebago, the largest lake in Wisconsin. There is the limestone cliff which runs thru the park. It's the Niagara Escarpment. It's 440 million years old and extends to Niagara Falls.

Of course Day 1 is really just spent getting set up and exploring around our camp.  Needless to say we had some pretty cool things on the trail behind our site.  Which led to our mini hike.  Enjoy the beauty. Please brace yourself for way to many pictures.

Ha Flying Forest

Day two of camp brought us a beautiful hike along ledge to see all the wonderful things that the park had to ffer.  Not only did we get some fantastic views, but also learned a little history.  We were hoping for some beach time this day, but the beach was kind of icky and a little cool outside.
Great way to start the day and fuel up for the big hike...BACON!!

This mound was so huge.  It went all the way to the tree line in the distance.

Oh yeah look at all that weiner

the little mole that I found running around in the woods by our campsite.

Now we also had a little excitement on during our nights. Que the music: Spooky Wind Music Tension by Halloween Sound Effects on Grooveshark

It was a quiet dark night.  The children were sitting around the fire with mom.  Dad on the edge of the picnic table. All seemed at peace and normal in the little camp of theirs.  Suddenly there was a wiggle on the picnic table. Frozen in a moment of fear, he looked for the puppies. Both were sitting with everyone else around the campfire. Slightly concerned Dad was at the moment. Until suddenly a nose or something touched him.  "Oh my god something touched me" said dad as he jumped about three feet.  Of course the rest of the family proceeds to laugh at this little moment.  Dad proceeds to insist that he was truly touched by something in the darkness.  We said no way would something reach out and touch you. And laughed some more. The End Night One to beddie bye we went.

Now one would think that after night one activities night two would be less eventful.  These little critters were determined we would have to say.   Seriously though who could pass up the possiblity of sneaking off with a human's smore.  Tonight's activities Dad had the privilege of sleeping thru.  Once again mom and the teenagers gather around the fire.  Only to hear a noise coming from the woods.  The sounds of little feet walking over the fallen leaves.  We freeze. Did you hear  that, did you.   Slowly we turn.  Nothing on the picnic table.  The noise comes again.  We grab the flashlights to look towards the forest (not the kid this time).  What do we see.   Three sets of eyes looking right at us.  Since we are slightly crazy we attempt to approach.  They move away until finally we lost them.  Guess dad was right, something did reach out and touch him that first night.  Still thinking that those three in the woods were attempting to distract us from one of their sneaky friends looking over the goods on the picnic table.   Can only imagine that each morning...this is what was happening in raccon camp:
