HoCo 5

Now in case you are not in the know, HoCo means Homecoming.  Clearly I was not in the know and since have been schooled on the latest acronym by my seniors.  Expanding our intelligence on a Friday, just like the cool kids.

Speaking of Fridays, it is the Friday of homecoming week here in our little cul de sac.  Going into this week, I truly did not realize how different my perspective was going to be compared to the homecoming weeks in the past. This year I am the mom of senior, it is his last high school homecoming, and he is turning 18.  I am soaking up all of these last little moments.

HoCo 5

  1. Powder Puff Football - Watching the Kelso and the other senior girls play was so much fun. And the seniors finally won.
  2. Home Cross County Meet  - I will always enjoy watching my son run...and this one was kind of funny because he "officially" asked Kelso to homecoming at the end of the race.
  3. Homecoming Parade - Now this is going down tonight.  It is different than most years, since Forest and Kelso are on court and will be riding in a convertible, which mind you will be driven by my fave 3rd grade teacher and amazing person, Mrs. S.  I am over the moon that she is driving them.
  4. Football Game - My first time attending the homecoming football game.  This is purely to watch the homecoming court do their homecoming thing during halftime.  Added bonus will be that I get to watch the Kelso cheer.
  5. HoCo Dance - I just love seeing them all dressed up looking all dapper. Oh and the theme this year is haunted Halloween (or something along those lines), so I am rather curious if anyone will take it to a different level and be in costume.   And now a glimpse of past years.....

Go Horicon!!!   And Seniors!!

Congrats Big Sister

There is one thing when you receive the news that you are becoming a big sister when you are 4 years old.  You are full of excitement and just can not wait for the little one to arrive that you get to be the big sister too.  You know all that responsibility and stuff of watching your little brother or sister plus trying to remember to go on the toilet.

Now it is a whole different story when you are 15 and becoming a big sister.  You at that point in your life realize they will be way cuter than you plus are little poop machines.  Poop machines in which you are definitely old enough to change a diaper on. Boo.

Well, my steppie discovered she was becoming a big sister under some very interesting circumstances that we will just say she is/was not to thrilled about.  Oh and let me clear the air...I am not prego, thank you very much.  My time has come and gone plus I have two adorable little nephews and lots of puppie love.  Anywho...to help her laugh a little about the situation, this big sister made her a little big sister survival kit.

And in case you can not read the above...it contained:
1. Ear Plugs - After all one can only listen to the crying, whining crap for so long
2. Nail Polish - for those "oh, I am sorry I can't help my nails are wet moments" or future bribery of a little brother due to the picture you have of him smiling happily with sparkly nail polish on his fingers.
3. Sour Patch Kids - Because sweet and sour is required when the inevitable breakdown comes, you need something to soothe the soul
4. Ball - Yeah, they didn't get you a puppy, but who says it can't be trained like one...fetch little boy, fetch
5. Duct Tape - They say it fixes everything, right. When the time comes to pull out all stops your imagination will help you find the perfect use for this.

She loved it and couldn't stop laughing.  Being a big sister is tough work...if only I knew of duct tape when I was 5, we, I mean I, couldn't have really had some fun.

Birthday time...again

Today's Friday five goes to the "daughter"  I never expected to have in my world, my steppie.  Here are my five of my favorite moments/things from the last year:

1. The mass amount of joy and excitement from being able to hold some little baby bunnies, who just wanted to climb up the sleeve of her jacket for some warmth.

2. Lack of girl fears...like related to various slimy creatures.  This girl will step up and catch frogs with the boys, find excitement in toads, and is just curious about other creatures we stumble upon.  No fear.

3. Softball.  Her last year in rec ball.  Now time to see how she fairs in the big leagues of high school.

4. and 5.  Sense of adventure.  This girl has an amazing sense of adventure.  If there is a crazy idea that relates to the outdoors she is in the majority of the time.

She has reached new heights.

Will toss on a 25lb pack and hike miles and love it or at least come back for more

Of course finding little discoveries like this make it worth it...

Gladly charts undiscovered waters

No Matter how crazy the adventure was

or how many cobwebs we went thru
And even managed to save the day on that day

Steppie you are my crazy adventure girl. Cheers to another crazy year filled with some fun adventures and creating some awesome stories.
Love you, steppie.

Forest Five

Today's Friday Five is dedicated to the little man who changed my world forever, my Forest.  Five of my favorite Forest moments/things etc. in the last year.

1. He started officially dating K and in turn will do things that she wants him too...like boat with us :)

2. It took his strength (what little there is) and a baseball bat to bust open the piƱata.

3.  The day after 16 miles when I was tired, exhausted, and hurt in places I forgot about, he came out of the door and clapped for me and cheered.

4.  Silliness...now this is clearly just one where I happened to catch it on camera.  He is my funny little dork and I love that.

5. This moment is only a fave because the strength and perseverance he showed that day made me so proud of him.  Granted I hated that he hurt, but he never gave up.

and did I mention his goofiness...the random moments where he stops being so darn serious.

.  My Forest, you are my world, the reason I wake up in the morning, and the reason why I busted my behind to get where I am ...for you. Every single day you make me proud, I am truly lucky.
I love you Forest, with all my heart and soul.  Cheers to another year!

Mother Daughter Match up

Inspired by Alison over at Get your Pretty On today we will be having a little I Feel Pretty Mother Daughter match up.  Seeing how much Alison and her daughter enjoyed doing it together I couldn't resist seeing if my steppie would be game, after all what girl doesn't want to play dress up and take pictures.  Since you are reading this post, you clearly could see she was in.   Here is our first (step) mother/daughter pretty post.

Since we both clearly love the military style jacket, which was not the challenge, let's take a look at a couple pics on how we wear that.

Now the real challenge should you accept it is....the very spring light blue striped button up
Steppie paired it with some distressed rolled up jeans and cute crochet ballerina flats.

I paired it with rolled up skinny jeans and my latest love, rocket dog penny waxy weave sneakers.  As you can see great stylish minds think alike.

Now what fun is a mini photo shoot without some outtakes.  Seriously people this whole being brave and playing model/photographer thing is darn hard work.  Might as well have some fun along the way.
The pictures in the military jackets came from us just going on a mini-hike at the park while we were there.

We had such a fun day.  I am hoping that we will be able to bring this to you on a regular basis. Please let me know if you have any ideas for next month?

It twas' all just a dream

To be a high schooler and have the courage to stand upon a stage before your peers and families is amazing.  I could not imagine myself doing this. During the time that I spent in high school the closest that I got to the stage was doing makeup for the actors and actress.  Hard work folks.  I learned that with the stage lighting you basically have to make everyone look like a drag queen.

Back towards the end of March we had the chance to attend our high school's play William Shakespeare's "A Midsummers Night Dream."

Being out of school for so long I did not recall what this was about. And mention Shakespeare and you know boring is running thru people's minds. Here is the very short synopsis and I can say it was rather refreshing that it was almost a romantic comedy.

"It portrays the events surrounding the marriage of the Duke of Athens, Theseus, and Hippolyta. These include the adventures of four young Athenian lovers and a group of six amateur actors, who are controlled and manipulated by the fairies who inhabit the forest in which most of the play is set."

It was kind of crazy you had naughty little fairies, love sick crazy maidens, and a donkey.  Each one of the kids did a stellar job at there part.

Of course I am partial to Forest's girlfriend, K.  K played Helena, a young woman. Her favorite line in the play, "No, no, I am as ugly as a bear" (II.ii.100). At times there were parts that I was wondering how he felt as she swooned over another boy on stage.  Yes it is a play, but maybe a twinge of jealousy.

As we left, think she was pretty surprised to see that we showed up. Look was priceless. I forget that being on stage with the lights you cannot see the audience.

A glorious evening of Shakespeare presented by some wonderful high school students.  Bravo!

The week that was

Since it is Friday, it seems to be rather appropriate to figure out what actually went down in the sack this week.   After all our future's so bright we have to wear shades....

This is what happens in the sack when you forget your sunglasses.  We pass them around, pimp them out, and hold them for randsom.  Not quite sure who wore them best.  Think it maybe a toss up between the Forest and the chiweenie.  Charlie was probably thinking something along the lines of "Dear Uncle, I got your glasses you little bitch, that's what you get for freaking me out and causing me to poop on the couch then the floor."  (True Story)

And this week we rejoiced in the fact we have a new licensed driver in the house.  Way to go Forest!!
No better way to celebrate then with Dominos...

And Forest got some help with his cookie baking too...
You know what it means when you are a good helper....you get to lick the beaters.  Seriously this is like a highlight of childhood.

And no week is complete without taking time out to make faces with Auntie Dawn

Seriously where else would they learn the important things in life.

Since the sun decided to shine on the first day of spring, we embraced the opportunity to get a little vitamin D and burn some energy out of the puppies.
A glorious evening for a walk.  And our little chiweenie saw some little chihuahuas and made an attempt to follow his people.  Good thing he was leashed or him and his buds would be running for the border.

Now some randomness from the internet trolling this week to expand your intellect....

1. Bestie And Wackadoodle Are Now Words In The Oxford English Dictionary - I seriously can not believe it took so long for crap shoot and do-over to make it in there.

2. 20 Things That Shouldn’t Be Terrifying But Totally Are - Basements all the way, I recall running into my parents basement so I could get out quicker.  Does putting rec rooms down there make it any better?  And of course anything that pops, explodes or makes a sudden noise..freaky.

3. 8 Things you've Always Wondered about, Finally Explained - At some point in a trival game, you will thank me for this link.

4. The Most Difficult Part of a Second Marriage - The hubbie looked at me funny when I said I was reading the divorce section in the Huffington Post.  Look at the knowledge you can find out there.

There you have it for our little week in the sack.  Now I have to go check my bracket to determine if I might possibly beat the sports crazy teenager for a change.

Enjoy the weekend lovelies
