All down hill from here...or not

The time has come where the top of the hill has been reached and it is all down hill from here.  Which in reality is good thing right because climbing up the bitch is a hell of a lot harder then going down it.  I think though, we will chill and hang at the top of this hill enjoying the view and all that has been worked for.

Now in case you didn't catch that underlying meaning...it is my hubbie's 40th birthday today. Happy BiRtHdAy!   Today's post shall be my view of his greatest moments, times and things from the last year:

1. Completing his first 5k
Yeah, yeah I am a runner so this makes me proud. Being able to cheer him on crossing the finishing was fantastic.

2. Some pretty awesome purchases went down that will up our fun level and make things easier
Oh the jetski.
and then the camper

And a brand new riding lawn mower.

Thank goodness we bought the jetski and camper to enable great tales since the stories of the old lawnmower, like how the wheel just fell off, will now be gone.

3. Growing your hair back....no but really just being able to have fun and enjoy life no matter how much of our awesome is showing.

4. Loving me because really we know how difficult of a task it really is and you choose to put up with my strong willed nature on the regular

5.   Quitting smoking and changing to vaping.  Quitting smoking is one of the hardest things a person can do (in my opinion).   I so proud that you choose to quit smoking and were able to conquer that.

Happy Birthday!!! And cheers to the view that will be enjoyed from the top...my love, always and forever.

It's your Birthday

We're going to party like it's your Birthday.  Clearly given the huge hint on Friday everyone out here in the blogosphere should have known that it was someone's birthday and my birthing day. Yes, this is now a thing in which a mom can use at her discretion (more on this shortly)  Numero uno agenda of the weekend was to celebrate.

First though...the boys at work on Friday went out and picked up these garlic bread pizza burgers.  Glorious and I did not eat supper that night.  Will be looking at recreating shortly.

Saturday morning I pulled the it's my birthing day card and went out for breakfast.  There is a health food store one town over that also serves food.  Hearing glorious things about it, I had to try it.  Of course, say health food around the hubbie and you get the nose cringe, which is why you need to pull the it's my birthing day card.

After a very glorious breakfast, we decided to take a little walk thru the downtown area.  It was such a beautiful warm fall day.

With the morning excursion complete, it was on to taking the boat out for one last time.  We had the absolute perfect day for this also.  How I shall miss the warm long weekend days of summer...

Then since we truly do live a rockstar still life sometimes...it was off to grab a teenager for his birthday dinner.  Buffalo Wild Wings it was.   And when someone decides to be a slightly grumpy little terd on there birthday, we will tell the server....who then will proceed to obtain a birthday crown for you.
Heck yeah that will get you mom of the year any day...such a happy boy.  We of course worked on modeling this correctly for him...and the little bro enjoyed the birthday ice cream for him.

And of course a birthday cannot be complete with out cake and a present wrap up to round out the weekend.

There you have our little weekend that was.....it's your birthday, we're going to party like it's your birthday.  Happy Birthday

Phantoms, Fishery and Rednecks

As I read thru numerous other blogger's posts, the consensus seems to be that like our shcool age children everyone gets a little lazy in the whole blogging arena.   Diddo over in this neck of the woods.  There is always so much going on and things to get ready for.  With that being said, let's get to my long weekend and see what I had to get all ready for.

Phantoms or Phantom of the Opera

Friday was my mommie and me day.  First up was a little trip to the salon to get all pretty and stuff.
Thank goodness for an awesome hair dresser and Stitchfix.  No idea where I would be without them.  Then it was off to dinner at Mo's a place for steaks.  The food there is glorious and this time around we actually had a seat by the window. Here is my obligatory cocktail picture.
Really it just looks so pretty sitting there.  And always make sure to get dessert, even if you take it to go, at a fancy restuarant.  It will then serve another purpose, like breakfast the next day.   After dinner, it was off to see Phantom of the Opera.
This is the view from our seats.  It was the first time I sat in one of the balcony levels.  Still undecided if I like it or not.  Clearly you could see everything, it was just the looking down versus looking straight and slightly up concept.  Overall it was a glorious show.  They did make a few changes this year which I was kind of disappointed with.  One was the ballroom scene at the beginning of the 2nd act.  The other time they had them dancing and coming down this gorgeous steps with mirrors surrounding them.  This year the steps were not there.  Really though, it was a glorious show and a great time with my mommie.

Fishery

This portion of the weekend is called fishery due to the mass amounts of fish that were seen while going down the river.  My intent was to grab one of the littles and do some kayaking.  Well said little decided that he did not want to go.  Instead, L took the new kayak on it's and her longest trip.

Rumor had it that there was a fish or otherwise known as a carp problem in the river.  Oh boy they were not kidding.  I will be saving every single person from the disgusting sights of decaying fish and the smell when you got close.  While standing outside the little bro's house upon our return, we literally saw no less then one dead fish float by per minute.  Here is a local news report on the little problem:

Needless to say that we are impatiently waiting the results of the carp issue and will be staying out of the water.  Which means no more swagtime aka boating time until further notice.  And they better figure this out soon.  Because no boating, sand bar, Skalliwags time makes Dawn a very very unhappy girl.

Now on to something that made me smile and off of the dead fish no boating bitch.  Kayaking with my Bullet.

Uuummm completely sitting in the wrong direction Bullet, mama can't paddle. Ok let's try this again.
Now that is much better...right up until....
He decided to balance on the front of the kayak.  At this point I am completely freaked out because I know at some point someone is going in the river and I will be damned if it was me...remember the carp paragraph earlier.  Bullet can swim and does have a puppy life vest on. Safety for all my kiddos.  Here we are getting close to land.
and he jumped...puppy missed by a little bit and was half in the water and half out.  Which meant that he got to take a bath immediately when he got home.  Now will I take him out again...possibly.  It would be glorious if he could be my kayaking buddie too.

Rednecks
It all started last year when we decided to burn a couch and be all redneck like.  Then it flowed into this year. Since we had no couches to burn, it was deemed that this years little redneck party would be a chicken sampling for my mommie and daddie aka  Winner Winner Chicken Dinner Day.
Yes you are seeing that correctly, there were 10 different kinds of marinated chicken.  My mom and dad found some they liked.  Plus I found one that I really liked that I would never think of grabbing.  Oh and yes that is a wonderous dip thing you see in the corner.  Hold tight for some spur of the moment aka no testing this is what happened recipe posts coming your way.
So glad he decided to use a napkin as to not mess his little white tank top.

And of course the day would not be complete without a little redneck family picture..

That my friends was the weekend that was

Happy Birthday, Anniversary..we are 1

Happy Birthday/Anniversary to us at Life in the Sack.  Our little blog is officially one year old today.

Why did I start blogging?   After reading other people's blogs and finding happiness and joy in them, I thought hey why not.  Plus I wanted to have an impact on just one person.  To make a difference in just one persons life.  I am a nurturer by nature.  To share what we love.

Of course there was the huge question on what to write about?  The end decision was just our little life in the cul de sac.  It is/was hard to pick one genre.  This girl is not a master chef, fashionista, or Martha Stewart crafter.  Hence the end all decision to just write about our life.

Our Name?  All the names I was thinking of were taken, sad.   So enlisted the help of the hubbie and Life in the Sack was born.   We live in a cul de sac.

My blog hope?   Staying true to myself in my writing and life.  And that this blog has given someone a smile, possibly taught them something or just gave them an escape from the everyday.

Over the last year being a super baby blogger, I still have had the chance to be "virtually" introduced to some amazing women.  I am very thankful for the cyber friends I have made and the opportunity I have had to get a glimpse into their lives.

This blog has taught me to believe in myself, become stronger than I was, and have confidence.  Actually taking pictures of myself like I was pretty, say what?   Writing down the craziness in my brain, glory.

Now where will we be going from here...good question.  Wish I had the answer.  There are so many fun ideas that are just going through my brain.  Things that I want to share and bring to you my readers.  You will definetly see a recipe and things that relate to what we love to do.   And hopefully I will be able to squeeze in finishing up the blog redesign....summer in Wisconsin seems to be making the priority list.  Of course, more of me just being me, learnnig to let the guard down and the words flow.

On this day though, I want to say Thank you.  Thank you to everyone who has been there from the beginning, who has come along the way, and to those who will be showing up in our future.  I hope you continue with us on our little journey of life.

ThAnK yOu XoXo

Cheers to another Year
